Choosing a Platform for ASRB NET Agricultural Extension
Every platform says it is the best one. That is not information you can act on. This page sets out what is actually worth checking before you pay for ASRB NET Agricultural Extension preparation, and then states plainly what AgriExtPrep does and does not do, so you can judge it against the same list.
First, do you need coaching at all?
Candidates clear ASRB NET in Agricultural Extension every year using nothing but the standard textbooks, the official syllabus and disciplined revision. If you are already doing that and it is working, you do not need to buy anything.
What a platform can genuinely save you is time. Tracking down previous year questions, sorting them against the ten units, writing mock papers that follow the real pattern, and finding somebody who will read a descriptive Mains answer and mark it — that is weeks of work, and it is work that has nothing to do with learning the subject.
The syllabus and exam pattern on this site is free and needs no account. Read that first. If after reading it you know exactly what to do next, you may not need anything else.
Five things worth checking before you pay
1. Is it Agricultural Extension, or is it agriculture in general?
Most agricultural exam platforms cover every subject shallowly. The ASRB Extension paper asks about Rogers' adopter categories, Bennett's hierarchy, Kirkpatrick's levels, Edgar Dale's cone, PRA tools and gender analysis frameworks. A general agriculture test series will not go there. Ask for a sample paper and see whether the questions could only have come from an Extension syllabus.
2. Do the mock tests use the real pattern?
ASRB NET is 150 objective questions in 120 minutes, with one third of a mark deducted for each wrong answer. A test series without negative marking is not practice for this exam — it trains you to guess freely, which is exactly the habit that costs marks on the day.
3. Do you get an analysis, or only a score?
A number out of 150 tells you nothing you can act on. What changes your next attempt is seeing which question you got wrong, what the right answer was, why it was right, and which units you keep losing marks in.
4. Will anyone read a Mains answer you write?
For ARS, SMS and STO the descriptive Mains and the interview decide the final merit — the Preliminary is only a screening gate. Answer writing is a skill, and it does not improve without somebody marking it. Ask specifically who marks the answers and what their background is.
5. Who is behind it?
A platform that will not tell you who writes its material, by name and qualification, is asking for money on trust it has not earned. Look for a named person, a checkable qualification, and a way to reach them.
What AgriExtPrep is
Measured against that same list, plainly:
- Subject. Agricultural Extension Education only. Nothing else. The material is organised as the ten units of the ASRB syllabus, not as general agriculture.
- Mock tests. Timed, with the ASRB marking scheme — three marks for a correct answer, one deducted for a wrong one. Mock tests, unit-wise tests and short topic quizzes. Three attempts each; only the first counts on the leaderboard.
- Analysis. After you submit, every question opens up: what you chose, what was correct, what it cost you, and an explanation. You do not have to use all three attempts first.
- Mains. Descriptive answer writing with previous year and probable questions, and written answers evaluated by scientists and professors rather than auto-marked.
- Who runs it. Dr. Pramod Tripathi — Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension Education, ICSSR Doctoral Fellow, qualified in ASRB NET (Agricultural Extension) and UGC-NET. The full profile, including the university and the fellowship, is on his page.
- Previous year questions. Real ASRB and ICAR NET questions, arranged unit by unit rather than as an undated pile.
What it is not
Stated as directly, because this is the part most platforms leave out:
- There is no guarantee of selection. Nobody can offer one. Selection depends on your preparation, that year's cut-off and the number of posts.
- There are no live classes. This is notes, tests, analysis and Mains evaluation. If you want a daily lecture timetable, this is not that.
- It does not cover other agriculture subjects. Agronomy, Horticulture, Soil Science and the rest are not here, and adding them shallowly would defeat the point.
- It does not replace the textbooks. The notes are exam-oriented and organised for revision. Serious preparation still means reading the standard books.
How to judge it yourself, for free
Rather than take any of the above on trust:
- Read the syllabus and exam pattern. No account needed.
- Read a unit guide and see whether it is at the depth the exam asks for.
- Create a free account — no card, no trial period — and take a free mock test. Then open the question-wise analysis and see whether it tells you anything useful.
- Only then look at the packages, if you still want to.
If the free material is not good, the paid material is not going to be either. That is a fair test to apply to any platform, including this one.
Common questions
Is ICAR NET the same as ASRB NET?
Yes. The examination was formerly conducted under the ICAR NET name and is now run by the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board. Older papers and notes carrying the ICAR NET name are still relevant.
Is NET the same as ARS?
Same Preliminary paper, different purpose. NET is qualifying only and stops at the computer based test. ARS, SMS and STO use that paper as a screening gate and then add a descriptive Mains and an interview, which is where the final merit is decided.
Does this cover ICAR AICE JRF and SRF too?
Yes, for Agricultural Extension. See the JRF and SRF page for how that paper differs from the ASRB one.
How much does it cost?
Free tests, free notes and the complete syllabus cost nothing and always will. Current prices for the paid packages are on the packages page — they are not repeated here so that this page cannot go out of date.
